Newton Grange Durham

Brasside, Durham DH1 5SA, UK – 0191 384 4708

Excellent food. Quick service. Friendly staff. Couldn't ask for more. We will definitely be back.

Lovely Sunday lunch with lots on the plate. Delicious red velvet cheesecake gateau for dessert. Excellent wines choice. Always friendly service.

The Bishops' Mill

1 Walkergate, Durham DH1 1WA, UK – 0191 370 8510

Food was lovely and very reasonably priced. We went at breakfast time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Were able to get a seat straight away and once we'd placed our order the food didn't take long to reach us at the table. We got a hot drink which turned out to be bottomless and the eggs Benedict were fantastic. Would definitely come back in the future.

Great little popular chain boozer. Rammed when I went in on a Saturday however service great found a table and had the American Drive Through Burger and Beer. Great price and I was happy. Plenty of people here starting Saturday night early however they were no dramas. Staff friendly and really welcoming. Will probably come back in the morning for the large breakfast for like £4. Wetherspoons Great Value. Bishops Mill great little place. Thumbs up!

The Water House

65 North Rd, Durham DH1 4SQ, UK – 0191 370 6540

Always a good one. Much smaller than the bishops mill (which is about 10 minutes away) but it doesn't have those silly club nights so its much quieter. It does attract a lot more locals but you shouldn't go anywhere in Durham with the intent on avoiding them seeing as they you know, live here.

Nice drinks... Lovely food... Please try atmosphere

Lebaneat

47 North Bailey, Durham DH1 3ET, UK – 0191 384 6777

Large portions of great tasting food at a reasonable price. This is the second time we had visited and we were glad it was still open. It appears to have two more outlets in Durham now, which is good news. Had the 'Lebeneat' mixed grill, a personal challenge as it was huge. The wife had a baby boneless chicken, which she was very happy with. Service was great, and although we went at an unusual time (1430), it was still populated. Well done all!

Loved it. Fantastic for a lunch or evening meal. Great menu great service and great prices. I have recommended this place to others who also enjoyed there visit. Highly recommend it and if in Durham i would definately eat there again.

Restaurant 17

17 Elvet Bridge, Durham DH1 3AA, UK – 0191 384 9050

Excellent food and service. Small and no view of the surroundings but made up for by incredible desserts.

Intimate place to spend a great time. Small variety of food but delicious! Waitresses are great!

84 Claypath, Durham DH1 1RG, UK – 0191 383 9001

Chinese Restaurants serving the Durham area

China Diner

5 Sunderland Rd, Durham DH1 2LH, UK – 0191 384 2666

Lovely tasty food, very quick service and friendly staff, a bit more expensive than what I'm used to but you get what you pay for.

Food is excellent especially if you like fresh veg in your chow mein.

Inshanghai

The Gates Shopping Centre Unit 30B, DH1 4SL, Durham DH1 4SW, UK – 0191 375 7333

Twas my birthday so we decided to have a family tea celebration. Called here unannounced but table given us immediately. We enjoyed lovely food, excellent menu including wide range of drinks as restaurant includes a separate bar with seating area. Staff were professional and friendly helping our party including small children feel welcome and relaxed. Big THANK YOU 😊

This buffet restaurant is beautifully situated on the banks of the river wear with Durham cathedral partially visible in the backround the view is very picturesque. The service recieved from staff is fantastic, the food is nice however i wouldn't go as far as saying fantastic but definitely above average in regards to a buffet restaurant, the prices are very reasonable, this restaurant does get very busy so it is worth avoiding peak times, parking nearby is paid and very limited with the nearest being just off North rd. Overall this restaurant is a lovely place to have a sit in meal. Highly recommended.

Lucky Dragon

10 Gort Pl, Durham DH1 1EY, UK – 0191 386 3600

Great food but they just over charged me by £12 waiting for driver to bring me money back

Not super fast but good was worth the wait :)

Indian Restaurants and takeaways in or near Durham

Spice Lounge

St. Nicholas Cottage, Market Place, Durham DH1 3NJ, UK – 0191 383 0927

Excellent Indian Restaurant down a quaint little lane which is not visible from Market Square. Food is superb with absolute lovely staff. If you have difficulty walking. Park in The Prince Bishops car park, lift upto shops, then a straight walk down all flat.

Up a steep flight of stairs at one side and down a small lane at the other. No parking and not good if you have difficulty walking. Good prices and the food is delicious. Doesn't sell tea or coffee. Good waiter service.

Alishaan

50-51 North Rd, Durham DH1 4SF, UK – 0191 370 9180

Absolutely delicious. We came for a nice meal out while staying in Durham and wasn't disappointed. Would definitely recommend and would love to visit again. Only two little niggles I had was how hot the room was and expensive the drinks were but the food and service was 5*

Excellent menu and service. Very smart and clean. Can't give five stars as I'm from Bradford where we have the best curry houses.

Shaheens

48 N Bailey, Durham DH1 3ET, UK – 0191 386 0960

Great service, lovely food, good vibes. Would definitely recommend this place.

Italian Pasta and Pizza Restaurants

ASK Italian

4 Walkergate, Durham DH1 1SQ, UK – 0191 383 2567

Very nice food. Pizza was entirely freshly made, tasted lush. Girlfriend had a starter and side for her main, server was perfectly happy to do that for her with was nice!

Lovely food, lovely staff. Not huge portions tho & it's quite expensive. But nice for a special treat

La Spaghettata

66 Saddler St, Durham DH1 3NP, UK – 0191 383 9290

Very busy for a Monday evening so that's always a good sign!! Steaks cooked to perfection but tiramisu is better from Sainsbury's. Good value for money and service was quick and friendly.

Food very nice and well cooked. Would have liked some vegetables with my meal instead of chips and salad.

Zizzi

43-44 Saddler St, Durham DH1 3NU, UK – 0191 435 2102

Such a lovely place to visit. The staff are friendly and the food is good. Been on several occasions and each time has been just as nice.

We went there on the Durham University Graduation Ceremony day. Most of tables had been reserved in advance. The waiter was very nice and managed to get an table with nice view. The cuisines were tasty and creative. Garlic bread is a must try and everyone recommended.

Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurants

Bill's Durham Restaurant

39 Saddler St, Durham DH1 3NU, UK – 0191 386 7672

Amazing service Came with my friends and fiance (for his birthday)tonight close to closing time. ( couldn’t make it earlier due to work) We were greeted and dealt with a great enthusiasm and professionalism. The gentleman deserves 5* for his service. He was amazing wit the baby who was with us and even held the baby whilst the parents were eating. (How lovely) the food was presented lovely and was very nice. Thank you for the great night.

Having heard much about Bill’s from my friends down south, I was excited to try the northern most branch in Durham. I was impressed from the moment I walked in the door, with great decor and atmosphere. We were greeted straight away by a polite waitress and lead to our table despite arriving fifteen minutes prior to our booking. There is a nice selection of food and drinks on the premium menus and the food lived up to this. I will definitely be visiting again and trying something else from the menu.

Finbarr's Restaurant

Aykley Heads House, Aykley Heads, Durham DH1 5TS, UK – 0191 307 7033

Whisky River

Elvet Riverside, Durham DH1 3UJ, UK – 0191 384 9511

Great bar with freindly and knowledgeable staff.. fantastic selection of whisky.. don't go looking for rum or gin tho.. clue is kinda in the name..!! Great atmosphere too. Good location next to the river, loads of steps but definitely worth the trek, but Durham is full of places like that..

Great bar and atmosphere, lovely staff and drinks. Highly recommend.

Union Bar Durham

16 North Rd, Durham DH1 4SH, UK

Great for entertainment but the drinks are 1 of the most pricy I've seen

A good bar with reasonable prices . A nice atmosphere and friendly staff .. not accessable for wheel chair uses as there is a flight of stairs to climb .
